The 27th annual Wellness in the Workplace
Conference was held in Ann Arbor on March 12,
2008. The conference theme was champion companies.
Since 1980, the University of Michigan Health
Management Research Center has been studying
employee health risks and their impact on medical
costs, absenteeism, and productivity. Health care
costs can clearly be predicted by measuring the
flow of employee health risks. Controlling health
risks leads to Zero Trend, a hot button in the
industry where medical costs do not increase. Zero
Trend can be reached by implementing a strong
onsite health risk appraisal (HRA) with biometric
screening (medical measurements such as blood
pressure, and cholesterol), HRA scoring, along
with follow-up coaching and
programs.
